Zohran Mamdani New York win represents hope for LA in 2025

Share: Reflecting on exactly one year ago, the disappointment from the election results for the US presidency was palpable across PCC’s campus. The heartbreak was there when Pasadena knew what President Trump’s win meant for the community, and what the coming year was going to look like with Project 2025 looming over everyone’s heads. In the months after that win many of those fears came true, as students were informed by newsletters from Superintendent-President José A. Gómez about immigration, ravaging Eaton fires and the ICE …

‘When are we gonna eat?’: Government shutdown leaves SNAP recipients starved for answers

Share: It has been 42 days since the government shut down on October 1, 2025  because Congress did not pass a budget for the new fiscal year. A government shutdown, however, means many federal programs are paused or diminished and hundreds of thousands of federal workers can be laid off. This leaves the country in a lurch as many people depend on these programs, specifically SNAP. This includes the Pasadena City College community who have shared their fears and worries since the program’s shutdown. SNAP …

Share: On October 13th, Pasadena City College held a launch party in the Creveling Lounge to welcome 20 student fellows and 14 community organizations as part of their inaugural PCC College Corps Program. The PCC College Corps Program introduced various paid fellowship opportunities for students to support regional fire recovery efforts under a local organization. In the aftermath of the Eaton Fires, the devastation led Superintendent President Dr. Jose Gomez and Career Center Director Jacqueline Sacoto to think creatively about how to rebuild the community …

Shocking: Hasan’s critics desperate for something to be mad about

Share: Hasan Piker continues to be a polarizing figure among polarizing figures in the world of online political commentators. However, the most recent batch of criticism levied towards him concerns little about his politics, but of convoluted allegations of animal abuse. The source of these allegations occurred when Hasan’s dog, Kaya, was seen yelping as the streamer reached offscreen. The dog’s reaction combined with Hasan’s sudden frustration towards her prompted online spectators to jump to conclusions. The resulting claim was that Piker was using an …

The best art pieces in the Louvre are the cameras

Share: On October 19th at 9:30 am, simply 30 minutes after the Louvre Museum in Paris had opened, a group of individuals conducted a heist estimated to be worth millions of dollars in under 7 minutes. For a museum with an accumulated net worth of billions of dollars in paintings, jewels, and artifacts they need to invest a small fraction of that into a better security system. Although this might be one of the simplest and calmest heists the Louvre has seen, it definitely isn’t …

Stop being sore losers, the Dodgers dynasty is here

Share: The Dodgers won the World Series once again in an absolute battle throughout all seven games against the Blue Jays. As Dodger fans are parading and celebrating, others are speculating the Dodgers as cheaters and the organization as a group of wealthy people buying another World Series win.  In all of the Dodgers World Series wins and appearances I have witnessed in my 19 years of life, this one has felt the most accomplishing. The only issue with winning is those who despise the …

Chicano student org honors dearly departed with Cempasúchil flowers for Dia De Los Muertos

Share: MECHA hosted a cempasúchil flower-making event to prepare PCC’s altar for Dia De Los Muertos on October 21.  The room was filled with a nostalgic energy as students reflected on what Dia de los Muertos is all about. As everyone was cutting orange streamers and rolling them up to give them the puffy, iconic look of the cempasúchil flower, people reflected on the celebration and the loved ones they are honoring on their own altars.  “I would say my favorite part is how you …

‘It’s not charity; it’s community’: Lancer Closet returns to PCC

Share: Pasadena City College students lined up to catch a glimpse of PCC’s fifth biannual Lancer Closet on Oct. 29. Hosted by the Environmental Sustainability Club (ESC), the club transformed the quad into its very own thrift store, where students could browse through clothes, shoes, and books at no cost. Tables were lined with an exhibition of clothes in different colors, textures, and styles. It didn’t just stop there; there were also free school supplies, books, and even Halloween decor.  “Lancer Closet is a free …

Buddies get strung together during friendship bracelet-making event

Share: Last Monday, the International Student Center held an event for students to destress and strengthen bonds through making bracelets. The idea came from Hailee Nguyen, a student worker in charge of the event, who hoped this would bring students together and help them take a moment to destress with finals coming up. New people would get to meet each other while making bracelets and snacking together.  This was the second event the International Student Center has organized. The first one was a mixer called …

Trump’s Shutdown Starves SNAP

Share: It’s been twenty days since the government shut its doors, and the consequences are growing harder to ignore. The Trump administration’s refusal to compromise has turned into a crisis of governance. One that punishes working families, federal employees, and the poor while political elites play a game of politics in Washington. A federal judge temporarily blocked the administration from firing workers during the shutdown, a miniscule but necessary relief for thousands of employees caught in political crossfire. These are public servants, park rangers, food …
