Close stores and give workers a holiday too

Share: When I was a kid, stores weren’t open on holidays. When preparing for a holiday, people would buy everything before the holiday, or they would go without. I remember a time in particular at my aunt’s house. She and my mom were getting dinner ready, but they realized they were missing an ingredient. We went out in search of any store that might be open, but came back empty-handed. They substituted it and moved on. Dinner was just as good without it proving stores …

PCC works toward Bachelor of Arts program, but universities aren’t happy

Share: In February 2026, there were three more bachelor’s degree programs approved at community colleges, despite opposition from California State Universities (CSUs) and Universities of California (UCs). Bachelor’s degree programs first started being offered in community colleges in 2014 under a temporary bill which then became permanent when Governor Newsom signed AB-927 into law. This law allows up to 30 new bachelor’s degree programs at community colleges each year with the caveat that the program being offered in a community college can’t duplicate a program …

The PCC Transfer Center hopes to answer those questions and more with their biannual University Day. Tamale fundraiser funds student scholarships

Share: Making and eating tamales at Christmas time has been a long-held tradition among Hispanic families. The tradition begins on December 12, celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a Mexican holiday that commemorates when the Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego in the 16th century. It extends through January 6, Epiphany. This is the last day of Christmas and the day that the three kings visited after Jesus’ birth. The Association of Latino Employees brings this tradition to campus every year by holding …

PCC Math program on last legs after federal funding pulled, students in distress

Share: On September 10,2025 the U.S Department of Education issued a press release after ending “racially discriminatory discretionary grant programs at minority serving institutions”.  Under the Trump administration, the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) has made a clear stance to get rid of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in education. Due to this, Pasadena City College, a minority serving institution (MSI) and a proud Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), has been affected as the administration has pulled Title 3 funding. The Title 3 grant is a …

New deal lets PCC students skip undergrad, go straight to pharmacy doctoral program

Share: On September 22, 2025, Pasadena City College announced the Transfer Admission Guarantee agreement it made with Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) into their Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.  This agreement with KGI differs from other PharmD programs since students don’t have to transfer to a bachelor’s degree program before transferring into their program. This means students will get into the field two years faster than those transferring in from a four-year university. Community college students will also save money because they won’t need to complete …

‘I loved every second’: Fans couldn’t be happier with ‘Wicked: For Good’

Share: It’s been the longest intermission ever. Most of the time when a play or musical has hit its climax and the lights come on, people have about 15-20 minutes to stretch, get more refreshments or use the restroom before they return for the conclusion of the play. This is how Wicked is when it’s performed on stage. In the movie world, things are a bit different. After a year of waiting, people finally gathered in the lobby of the theatre, anticipating the ending of …

I have been changed for good by Wicked’s second act

Share: “Wicked: For Good” came out this past weekend, much to the anticipation of fans. The second act came out a year following the release of the first movie. This was a bold movie on the part of the creators, who decided to split a 2 hour, 45 minute stage musical into two movies totaling 4 hours, 57 minutes. Some thought of it as a cash grab, but it was worth it in the end. The movies were able to expand on storylines that seemed …
