Share: Following a semester of renovations, students eagerly gathered to see the new changes to the historic mirror pools after they opened to the public. Renovation efforts started from PCC’s Facilities Strategic Plan, a long-term initiative to revitalize the campus. Funding for the project comes from Measure PCC, a bond approved by local voters in November 2022. Restoration of the mirror pools began with repairing cracks, renewing coping caps, and replacing and relocating the pool’s equipment, according to previous PCC spokesperson Alexander Boekelheide. The improvements …
U-Pass fee decision pushed to spring as students wait and worry
Share: Following the end of the first week of the fall semester, a large line of students, both new and old, eagerly wrapped around the CC building. As each student approached the window, ready to fill out surveys, some chatted about their commute with their new U-Pass. “I live just about 13 minutes away and am often very reliant on my U-Pass to get to school and home,” said one of the students, Jakob Keener. The U-Pass program offers transportation services to select California colleges, …
Got Club Rush FOMO? Here’s a guide to PCC’s communities
Share: Last week, the quad was populated by PCC students, both new and old, eager to see everything the cliques of PCC had to offer during Club Rush. Club Rush is an event where all of PCC’s clubs come together to teach people new cultures, to help them out with extracurricular activities, and to offer a variety of ventures for everyone to partake in. As for those who weren’t able to make it or find a club they were looking for, don’t wait until the …
A complete collection of highlights at Pasadena’s Front Row Card Show
Share: It was a bright, sunny day outside the Pasadena Convention Center. A long line filled with enthusiastic card collectors and vendors for the Front Row Card Show, a biannual event. As they were waiting, those leaving paraded their souvenirs, leaving those still waiting to enter in awe. Some were eager to hunt the rare collectibles of their wildest dreams; others hoped to trade what they had for something better. One card collector, John Pena, took advantage of the opportunity to trade in unwanted cards …
New class search system grants easier registration access
Share: A new class search system to improve the Class Schedule Search was launched on May 27th according to a email sent to students The primary reason behind the upgrade is that the current system is reliant on software that the vendor will stop supporting as of September this year. The new system will also support the new Common Course Numbering (CCN) system, which is being rolled out across the California community colleges this fall. Ultimately, the upgrades to the Class Schedule Search were an …

This latest season of ‘The Last of Us’ should be the last of it
Share: After two years of waiting, the second season to one of the better video game adaptations ‘The Last of Us’ has returned—only for it to feel mediocre. The first season was a spectacle of fans being able to see the moments that made them laugh, cry, or leave them in awe on screen. The second season amounts to as much as an acknowledgment of “Yeah, it’s cool, but why am I watching when I can play the game?” It’s a significant issue, as the …
Death penalty push only fuels Luigi’s martyrdom
Share: In an unjust trial, Attorney General Pam Bondi decided to pursue the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, accused of the December 4, 2024, assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. With the law being so biased and strict, seemingly exclusively towards Mangione in an already flawed legal system, it almost seems as if they’re using him as an example to deter others from committing similar actions. It is unfair that Mangione allegedly shot one individual without attempting to harm others, but is treated as if …
Endgame for Pasadena comic shop: Distributor bankruptcy, tariffs close the book
Share: WATCH: Comics Factory Closes After 31 Years (Instagram) For more than 30 years, Comics Factory stood as Pasadena’s fortress of solitude for superheroes, manga, and all things nerd culture. But in recent weeks, its front windows are no longer covered in comic posters or lit by neon signs. Instead, stark “STORE CLOSING” signs plaster the face of a beloved local cornerstone, a quiet casualty of a collapse far larger than it first seemed. “Diamond Comics, one of our big distributors, declared bankruptcy,” Comics Factory …
Warriors strike down Lancers in tense game
Share: Last Saturday, the Lancers marched onto the field, emanating confidence as both teams greeted each other with the desire to send the other home empty-handed. Before the first pitch, a pair of Lancer players performed their version of a pregame ritual to ensure they had good luck. “For luck, I walk to the left field pole, I get on one knee, I pray,” first baseman Adrian Roman said. “Then I draw a cross and my number in the dirt.” “I like to read a …
