Black students in STEM gather to learn and honor late founder

Share: When someone so impactful is wrongfully taken from a community, it can leave a hole no one else can fill. Dr. Carol Brown was that impactful for PCC, so impactful that her legacy still lives on and helps students even after her passing, as seen at the 4th annual Dr. Carol Brown Legacy: Building Connections for Black Students in STEM. The late Dr. Brown was a monumental influence at PCC during her 15 years here. She worked in Financial Aid, Former Foster Youth Services, …

AI brought Kilmer back from the dead, and it’s killing the film industry

Share: In an era where AI has become so powerful, now entering the entertainment industry, it poses a huge threat to real actors and artists. Willingly using AI for a film is a big slap in the face to actors who are more than capable of playing a role in a film.  Val Kilmer’s estate signed off the rights for ‘As Deep as the Grave’ to star an AI version of Val Kilmer, who was unable to be on set due to his chronic illness …

Congressional candidate and PCC alum campaigns on campus

Share: Hidden within the Center of the Arts building, inside of the CA-101 lecture hall, students are seated with anticipation to discuss and express their views. As distrust and uncertainty of our leaders’ decisions on behalf of us build up, coming together to fight for change has become the structure our community needs. This is what happened at the Pasadena City College Young Democratic Socialists of America Club meeting held on Thursday, Apr 4, 2026.  “Because in a world where we can be anything, why …

More patrols, new parking system lead to more citations

Share: A new parking permit system was implemented at PCC this semester, causing a major increase in parking tickets for both students and staff.  The previous system, PayByPhone, was an app students and visitors could download on their phones for daily parking permits. The new system for daily parking permits is simply a QR code you can scan, which is located in the parking lots.  The parking machines are also still available in each lot if people are unable to pay online. However, another issue …

Artists’ platforms can be bigger than the performance

Share: People with power or a large platform should use it to spread awareness about social and political issues, happening not just in the U.S. but globally too. When there are injustices affecting any kind of community, that should always be addressed. Even when there is censorship or obstacles preventing celebrities from speaking out, it is important that they try to. What many saw when Becky G spoke up for immigrants at Coachella this year was that the camera cut away from her, which was …

Another conservative busted for being a hypocrite

Share: The link between Anti-LGBTQ+ ideologies and internalized queerphobia gets connected even tighter as Kristi Noem’s husband’s bimbo fetish cross-dressing pictures were leaked. Despite actively working towards taking away queer and trans rights, he hid a double life behind plastic, not just from years of his wife’s cosmetic surgery. “As the governor of South Dakota, Kristi Noem was a prominent proponent of legislation restricting transgender rights, including bans on transgender girls taking part in school sports and on gender-affirming care for minors. She signed the …

Lancers clip Seahawks wings in walkoff victory

Share: After suffering 3 straight losses, PCC’s baseball team reclaimed their glory with a comeback win at home against LA Harbor thanks to a walkoff single from Joaquin Salcedo.  Coming into their game against the La Harbor Seahawks, the Lancers were in desperate need of not just a win, but a strong showing on the pitching mound. The game started strongly on the mound for the Lancers with a 1-2-3 inning.  The second inning wasn’t as quick and easy as the first for pitcher AJ …

Sax legend brings soul and stardom to PCC

Share: As a college student, the chance to meet someone who’s reached legendary status in their field is a dream. Some of the music majors of PCC were able to live that dream on April 3 in the Westerbeck Recital Hall, when legendary saxophonist Ernie Watts came to PCC and performed with the PCC Jazz Faculty (Gary Fukushima, piano, Steve Cotter, guitar, Zac Matthews, bass, Brian Carmody, drums) to play the sounds of John Coltrane and Miles Davis. “It was like being able to step …

Facilities master plan leaves no space for parking

Share: PCC has a remodeling plan called the Facilities Master Plan, which reveals all of the new buildings and renovations for the upcoming years. However, this so-called master plan neglected the parking issues that may arise with the many remodeling plans. The plan includes a new cafe, student services, annex, health and sciences, and academic/CTE buildings as well as renovations to multiple other structures. Along with these new buildings, expanded and new programs will be added, such as an expansion to the dental program, a …

Trump’s Easter ‘truths’ make him older but never wiser

Share: This year on Easter morning, President Donald Trump proceeded to open Truth Social, his social media platform, from which he posts multiple times a day, and shared a nonsensical tirade including a threat to Iran if they didn’t open up the Strait of Hormuz. The post was insane, just like the rest of his posts have been, and left a question on whether this is just the level Trump has always been or if he is deteriorating. “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and …
