The presidents of the South Coast Conference (SCC) college unanimously made the decision to opt-out of the Spring 2 season on Friday for a second consecutive year, due to the fluctuating COVID-19 cases and concerns of other COVID variants.
While athletic leagues across the country have found ways to adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic and pick up where they left off in March, PCC sports teams won’t see action until Jan. of 2021 per an agenda set in place by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).
The last time the PCC Football team was on the field they went 6-4, their first winning record since 2008. And for the first time in 45 years, they had back-to-back shutouts while closing down the season in second place in the SCFA American Pacific League. Lancers defeated their opponents 98-2 over their last three games. After his third season, coach Steven Mojarro has the Lancers on the right track. The winning has certainly helped the team in the recruiting department.
The decision to postpone sports at PCC is the best choice to make with cases of COVID-19 in California remaining in the thousands.

With growing concerns over the spread of COVID-19 around the U.S., the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) has canceled PCC Athletics 2019-2020 spring sports season, effective immediately since Mar. 19, 2020.
As a part of their reaction to COVID-19, PCC suspended sports games and practices for an indefinite amount of time following the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAAs) unanimous vote last Thursday. This decision is suspending seven sports which will affect 109 athlete’s overall at PCC.
A plan to formalize an 18% budget reserve, a 260% increase over the state’s recommended minimum, puts specific usage limitations on approximately $31.6 million of PCC’s general fund after the Board of Trustees (BOT) approved a new board policy (BP) at their Nov. 13 meeting.
