Share: As a society, we’ve easily moved past the mysterious ingredients in fast food and the cold food they hand you after waiting in line for twenty minutes. However, what we cannot move past is the bag charge that’s being added to your bill without proper acknowledgement. Although we’ve utilized paper and plastic bags for a couple of decades, it wasn’t until 2014 that the California Assembly approved and passed Senate Bill 270. A bill that banned single-use plastic and paper shopping bags and imposed …

Earlier this year a deadly shooting at Brown University had students under lock down, also known as sheltering in place. This tragedy, amongst others, prompted neighboring colleges such as East Los Angeles College …

My Territory: Thank you Upward Bound for all the memorable summers
Share: Dear Upward Bound, When I started high school I was forced by my brother to join a program that took up most of my Saturdays with hour-long workshops. The Occidental College Upward Bound program serves five local high schools, helping underclassmen prepare for high school exams and classes and helping seniors prepare for their college transition. Although it sounds like an extremely helpful program, to a fourteen year old the amount of excuses I had thought of to not attend could fill up three …
A big beautiful round of applause for Trump’s aviation impact
Share: An audio was recently released of the Air Traffic Controller, involved in the Air Canada jet collision, in sheer panic and guilt after attempting to reach the cockpit and the fire truck before the deadly disaster at LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York. While spectators were quick to point fingers and completely blame the traffic controller for not reacting fast enough, it wasn’t his fault for doing what he could with limited staff in the control tower. The lack of staffing that night sadly …
The real crime of this film was its supporting actors

PCC against ICE: ‘It’s not too late to join the fight’

In response, student activism has seen a new wave across the country, including at PCC. At 1 p.m. on February 26, students will host a march from the Jack Scott Building to Pasadena’s City Hall to peacefully advocate for community rights and to stand together. These students, having been personally affected by ICE …
Making cents of the penny termination decision
Share: On Nov 12, the Secretary of the Treasury decided to stop the 232-year production of pennies after determining the rising cost of production outweighs their value. The decision comes from an increase in the costs of materials, making it go from a previous cost of 1.42 cents to now 3.69 cents to create one penny. With this cancellation, the Mint expects to save approximately $56 million per year in production savings. The announcement of the discontinuation of the penny coincided with the Mint hosting …

‘Running Man’ had me sprinting to the theaters
Share: After four adaptations from Stephen King’s classic novels released this year, it was finally time for “The Running Man” to hit theaters. This second adaptation of the popular novel follows a strikingly different storyline from the first. The film, directed by Edgar Wright, instead focuses more closely on the action and tension that Ben Richards, played by Glen Powell, had to endure in a near-future dystopian society. The main protagonist, Richards, is a hard-working family man determined to ensure his daughter and wife overcome …
