Pasadena program proves ‘strong communities start with strong dads’

Share: Every Monday, at 6 p.m., a group of men file into a room at the Flintridge Center, some of them just coming off of work or class, and they sit down at a table together and begin to eat. Each mouth that is being filled has a story about how they ended up with a seat at this table, but what they all share is the reason they came. Each of these men are dads who are working to become a bigger and better …

Students are just along for the ride in dragged out U-PASS decision

Share: Pasadena City College is a commuter school with many students taking the Metro to campus, a system that either gets students to school on time or runs pretty late. The relatively simple system may be changing, though earlier this fall semester 2026, it was announced that the UPASS was changing. Despite the anticipation and …

Share: A liminal is a place that’s in-between worlds, not quite one or the other. Things don’t make sense there, randomly placed furniture, stairs, and half walls. Fluorescent lighting with a dull electric buzz can be heard almost like background music to the uncanny setting. Yet, it’s so quiet all you can hear are the footsteps of something behind the walls coming closer.   On Friday, May 29, “Backrooms” premiered in theaters worldwide. Directed by A24’s youngest director, 20-year-old Kane Parsons, And starring Chiwetel Ejiofer and …

‘Masters of the Universe’ is a master to none

Share: Perhaps forty years too late, Travis Knight’s “Masters of the Universe” revives the classic Saturday morning cartoon with a second act that will make you wish it was the third. The belated retelling of the adventures of He-Man fails to engage the fandom surrounding the 1980s show while also being unable to keep modern audiences immersed. The fundamental issue with “Masters of the Universe” is the film’s inability to pick a generation to appease to. For the newer generations getting into He-Man, the film …
