Volleyball kills Pirates with positivity

A few minutes into practice, gathered in a circle on the court of the Braun Athletic Center, the coach and the girls of the Pasadena City College volleyball team talk about how to challenge themselves, spread words of encouragement and denounce gossip and negativity. Then they yell a chant and break their huddle to begin the intense practice.  With the slogan “team first” said before their games, the team recently won the 5 set game 3-2 against the Ventura Pirates on Wednesday Sept. 4.  With …

Pew pew: Lancers eliminated by the Lasers

Being the only sports team at Pasadena City College (PCC) to make it to the South Coast Conference (SCC) North Division Playoffs, the Lancers were fully prepared, however, going up against the number one ranked team in the state proved to be harder than expected. The Lasers’ title remains intact, having only lost one match in the last two seasons, after beaming victory away from the Lancers in a three set match ( 25-27, 22-25, 18-25) Tuesday night at Irvine Valley College. PCC did not …

PCC falls to ELAC: A loss 12 years in the making

The PCC women’s volleyball team began the 2018 South Coast Conference on the wrong foot after losing to East Los Angeles College in a five-set home game Wednesday evening. Last year, the Lancers won the 2017 SCC North title with a flawless 8-0 performance. While hoping to snag another win after pummeling LA Trade-Tech 3-0 last Friday, the Lancers did not expect for ELAC’s defense to knock them out of the Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium with a 3-2 loss, scoring 25-20, 16-25, 25-20, 15-25, 15-12. The Huskies …

The Lancers fell short Wednesday night when they played against El Camino who is ranked No. 3 in the league. They started their first set strong but lost their aggressive mindset by the second. Head coach Mike Terrill emphasized that a big topic that was …

From benchwarmer to the best on the team

Emily Ahedo did not start her PCC athletic career the way she wanted to. En route to graduating at San Gabriel Mission High, Ahedo started looking into joining the Lancer volleyball team late. Debating between a two and four year college option, Ahedo made some last minute choices that affected her career.   Much to Ahedo’s dismay, all the team spots were already filled by the time she decided she would come to a two year college. The PCC volleyball coach, Mike Terrill, made the …
