Share: The Lancers swept the East LA Huskies 3-0 in their first conference matchup this past Friday evening. The first set opened up with Pasadena scoring 8 straight points unanswered which led to East Los Angeles taking their first timeout. The brief intermission was not enough to halt the Lancers as the offense dominated in incredible fashion closing out the set with a 25-7 score in their favor.  The Lancers first set dominance shined through sophomore outside hitter Biko Hollie.  “I think my self motivation …

Sweet revenge for Lancers in game of inches

Share: This past Saturday the Lancers beat the Chaffey Panthers 21-19 to improve their record to an undefeated 4-0, handing the Panthers their first loss since November 12, 2022. Not only was this game vital to keeping the dominant momentum rolling for PCC’s 2024 campaign, but it was a chance for the Lancers to get revenge after losing to Chaffey twice in 2023, with the most painful loss being in the American Division Championship Bowl. A stalemate of a first half started with Pasadena shutting …

Walz is a knucklehead and Vance is a less crazy Trump

Share: In a rather refreshing turn of events, the vice presidential debate between JD Vance and Tim Walz showed a display of professionalism and civility that has unfortunately become something of a rarity in political debates. Instead of spending most of the debate attacking one another’s character, the two Vice Presidential candidates focused on discussing policies and addressing the concerns of American citizens. This is exactly how a vice presidential debate should be conducted, as the main purpose of a vice presidential candidate during a …

Cards Against Elon: Just pay up, you billionaire cheapskate

Share: Cards Against Humanity is rightfully suing Elon Musk’s SpaceX for allegedly using land owned by the company in Texas without their permission. In response to previous complaints from Cards Against Humanity, they claim SpaceX responded with a mediocre lowball offer to buy the land for less than half its value with a 12-hour deadline to accept.  In terms of this whole beef the media wants to spin between SpaceX and Cards Against Humanity just shows how petty SpaceX is. Looking at the SpaceX v …

Bulking can be good for you if done properly

Share: The terms “cutting” and “bulking” in terms of consuming an excess of calories or burning more calories than you consume have become incredibly normalized in the context of the gym. They are often used in order to put on muscle mass or to lose fat to make one’s muscles look more “aesthetic.” Many claim that overeating and bulking is bad for you, which is often found to be true, yet I disagree. If you are dedicated to the gym and have strong discipline, bulking …

Ceramics artist uses mythology to challenge stagnant gender roles

Share: “Only one drop revives stagnant water,” were the words of Jewish, transdisciplinary artist Nicki Green when asked about her latest piece. This is a recurring theme in many of Green’s ceramic pieces, which intersect aspects of trans identity and queer history with traditional Jewish ritualistic practices.  Green, a ceramic artist and professor at Alfred University in New York, spoke in PCC’s very Westerbeck Hall on Monday, October 7. Green began her talk by acknowledging the anniversary of Hama’s coordinated attacks on Israeli targets and …

“Folie à Deux”: A Franchise’s Killing Joke

Share: “Folie à Deux”, the sequel to the hit movie “Joker”, released in the United States this weekend. The sequel stars Joaquin Phoenix returning as Joker and newcomer Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, the eccentric girlfriend and partner in crime of the Joker, in a film that feels as dark and depressing as the original, and that seems to many fans an attempted money grab that no one asked for.  When “Folie à Deux” was announced, the first idea discussed was the Joker meeting Quinn. …

Mounties knock Lancers from unbeaten ranks with shutout win

Share: The Pasadena City College Lancers failed to extend their undefeated streak after Tuesday’s game against the Mt. San Antonio College Mounties in a 3-0 shutout loss. Pasadena came into the match having zero losses this season and aimed to extend that streak into their first conference match. The Lancers’ defense had shut down opposing offenses all season with clean sheets across the board, with the exception of one match against the Santa Barbara Vaqueros. So when the Mounties opened up the scoring in the …

Compton heads home with loss straight outta Pasadena

Share: The Lancers conquered Compton College 3-0 last Wednesday evening, showing off their skills for the youth of the local YMCA. The Hutto-Patterson gym echoed with chants as PCC’s spirits were high preparing for the game. During warm-ups, the team was dressed in their pink warm-up shirts and pink bows to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pasadena was cheered on throughout the game by kids from South Pasadena San Marino YMCA. The organization attended the game in anticipation of their Youth Sports Leagues volleyball program …

Filipino American heritage month kicks off with a party

Share: Two long bamboo poles rest on the floor of the Circadian room while the smell of BBQ and the sound of a Sarah Geronimo power ballad blasts on the overhead speakers. The poles are for a traditional folk dance from the Philippines called “tinikling,” where two people clap the bamboo poles together while dancers step over and in between them, weaving it all into a seamless partner dance. Miguel Bernardo, the new president of The Reunited Organization of Pilipinx Americans (TROPA) together with inter-council …
