Counting blessings, counting wins: Lancers streak continues into conference play
Share: The Lancers soccer squad has reached five wins in a row on Friday after a fast-paced victory over the Bakersfield College Renegades. But it was the timing of the win streak more than anything else that elevated this victory into a critical one. Yes, the Lancers had won the last four matches. But with the beginning of conference play scheduled for Tuesday, Friday’s match could change the tone of the whole season. Win, and the Lancers would be carrying the velocity of five wins …

From the Archives: College concert celebrates the end of WWII
Share: [Editor’s Desk, 2024: At this point in May 1945, Pasadena Junior College had planned an eventful week for the students. Our top story from this edition covered five women from PJC, one of whom would be crowned “queen of the wartime carnival” at the Hawaiian Paradise Ball. But there were other events happening all the way across the world. World War II had begun to come to a close. Germany had surrendered only a few days prior, on May 7. The war engrossed the …
PCC celebrates centennial with cakes, concerts and candy

Children lined up in a single file to pull down the piñata with thinned strings instead of a bat, with each child pulling a string one at a time for the trap door to open. As the bottom fell out, the children ran towards the floor to pick up as much candy as possible. “This is Latin Heritage Month as well. So …

‘Megalopolis’ is a crime against humanity, but watch it anyway
Share: Drugs are bad kids, but if you’re Francis Ford Coppola, you take them to come up with something as batshit insane as “Megalopolis.” I can barely even bring myself to call “Megalopolis” a film. It is truly its own beast. I wouldn’t argue with anyone who thinks that this is the biggest piece of shit to ever come out in the history of cinema. If someone went into the cinema expecting “Megalopolis” to be the next “Godfather,” then they would be sorely disappointed. And …

Share: The entertainment industry is fucked. Much suspicion has been directed towards fellow celebrities, with some of them deleting any trace of social media presence following the arrest of Combs. That along with pre-existing footage of various celebrities …
‘A DIY Ethos:’ History prof on studying, skateboarding, and his identical twin
Share: Dr. Bradford Johnston is a history professor at PCC, but in another life he might have been a lawyer. So what stopped him? “I was set to enroll or matriculate in law school with my twin brother, and at the last minute decided not to do so. Perhaps I was having too much fun skateboarding,” Johnston said. Johnston remembers how, at age thirteen, he noticed many neighborhood kids skateboarding, saying, “I instantly thought that it was cool. I was intrigued.” Before this, his exposure …
