Pasadena City College officials violated the law when they canceled winter session for the 2012-2013 academic calendar and must restore a semester calendar and pay employees for lost wages, according to a preliminary ruling from the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB).
Interim President Bob Miller stated at the College Council meeting on Thursday that, despite student and faculty support for a winter intersession, he will not be recommending a 2015-2016 winter calendar to the Board of Trustees.
The quickest and least painful way for the administration to defuse this crisis of confidence would be for it to immediately propose an official 2013-14 college calendar that includes a winter session. We urge it to do so without delay.
Members of the Calendar Standing Committee asked the Board of Trustees on Wednesday to reinstate winter session during the next year.
A three-semester calendar for the 2013-2014 academic year, excluding any winter intersession, was presented to the Calendar Standing Committee on Jan. 31.
