The women’s softball team lost against the Moorpark Raiders on Friday and the Southwestern Jaguars on Saturday.

Pasadena is now 1-2 for the season and 1-1 at home.

In their game on Friday, the Lancers went down early, giving up three runs in the first three innings, and couldn’t catch up. The final score was 4-2.

The Lancers opened strong on Saturday at home against Southwestern, scoring one run in the first inning and shutting out the Jaguars until the fourth inning when the game was tied 1-1.

Starting pitcher Raeleen Fuentes said she “felt good” coming into the game but only had a chance to play four innings. In those innings, Fuentes had two strikeouts and showed amazing composure catching a line drive headed straight for her, stalling any Jaguar momentum.

Fuentes’ luck went foul when she failed to catch another line drive that struck her in the foot and benched her for the rest of the game.

Pasadena’s top reliever, Alyssa Madrid, pitched the remainder of the game but despite some impressive pitching, it wasn’t enough to close out the Jaguars.

“I felt really pumped, Rae was throwing a good game,” Madrid said. “I’m happy I got to be by her side to relieve her when she needed it.”

The Lancers played hard but their focus seemed shattered with their star pitcher out of the game. After the fourth inning the Lancers gave up an inside-the-park home run and Madrid walked two batters after hitting them with a pitch.

“It did get more intense because we were running out of time,” Madrid said. “I should have kept more composure and went up with a more mental game.”

The Lancers had the bases loaded at the bottom of the seventh inning but ultimately lost 3-1 to the Jaguars.

“I don’t feel our defense did enough to back up our pitchers’ performance,” head coach Monica Tantlinger said. “We have a full week of practice and we need them to mentally check back in. We need them to understand that this is college and we don’t have time for that.”

The Lancers host the Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros in their next game on Saturday Feb. 6 at 12 p.m.
