Entering into Friday’s game, the Lancers were coming off of two comeback performances. Their previous showing was a tight game vs. LA Pierce, which saw PCC down 3-0 at the half, coming back to tie it 4-4 final. The game before that, Lancers were down 2-0 coming into the second period, and returned with four unanswered goals to win 4-2. There was no such slow start in PCC’s 9-0 blowout of Imperial Valley.
PCC’s roster was anxious for a better first half performance and a dominant win and they got it. With their highest scoring game since 2002, the stark victory came over Imperial Valley at Robinson Stadium on Sept. 22.
Each of the Lancers’ nine goals was scored by a different player, in what could only be described as a shutout. PCC was up 3-0 during halftime and scored another six in the second period.
The minute mark each goal was scored in: 24, 33, 44, 51, 54, 61, 66, 73, 87. The following players scored goals: Jose Perez, Titus Medina, Kevin Posada, James Baker, Angel Ballesteros, Miguel Medina, Alejandro Concepcion, Eduardo Sanchez, Santiago Rivera.
The scoring highlight of the game came in the 44th minute when defender Chris Amador launched a free kick directly in front of the goal box, which was headed-in for a goal by midfielder Eduardo Sanchez.
“I got in there not scared, and made it happen,” said freshman Eduardo Sanchez. “I felt like we didn’t get enough goals.”
The ball was kept on the Imperial Valley side of the field virtually all game, with PCC’s midfield and backline successfully intercepting any attack from the Desert Warriors.
Imperial Valley was unable to fend off the sheer magnitude of the Lancers’ offense, with PCC beating them 20-1 with shots on goal.
“I was hungry for it…it (the performance) was a team effort,” said midfielder Miguel Medina (1 goal, 2 assists).
The scoring clinic continued up to the end of the game, with a goal inside the two minute mark coming from sophomore Titus Medina.
“We were coming off those two hard comebacks, so I think we needed this before conference,” said head coach Francisco Cantero. “A lot of guys got the opportunity to learn that they can help our team score, and be a weapon on offense.”
The Lancers start their promising conference run with an away game vs. LA harbor on Tuesday, Oct. 3. PCC hosts their next game at Robinson Stadium vs. Los Angeles City on Friday, Oct. 6.
