Trump has likely lied once again, but the revelation is horrifying more so than it is obvious.

This new lie of his revolves around Project 2025, a conservative wishlist written by various authors. The conservative initiative was published by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank that has rejected fighting against climate change, believes that the Black Lives Matter organization is a Marxist insurgency ploy, and has less than positive views on critical race theory.

It isn’t too hard to understand why anyone who isn’t a far right Christian nationalist thinks Project 2025 is an absolute nightmare of an idea. The entire thing would essentially destroy America as we know it all for the sake of “Conservative Christian values.”  The initiative really only seems to be a good idea for the furthest right-leaning conservative, as Project 2025 has received backlash from both Democrats, and has even faced push back from moderate Republicans.

While on the campaign trail, Trump repeatedly dismissed Project 2025, and continued to assure his followers and the American public that he had absolutely nothing to do with Project 2025. Trump even went as far as to call some of the policies “ridiculous,” and during the 2024 Presidential Debate, stated that he had zero plans to read it, and didn’t want to read it.

Although he may have told the truth about not reading the manifesto, since he is likely incapable of reading above a fifth-grade level, Trump has most-definitely lied about not having to do with anything Project 2025 related, as the President-elect has gone on to nominate multiple Project 2025 contributors to work for his administration. Alarming picks such as Thomas Homan for Border Czar, and Brendan Carr to lead the FCC have both proved that Trump has once again lied.

Although it is incredibly insulting to lie to the American public, it’s tiring when one considers the fact that this is Trump that we’re talking about. The man doesn’t know how to be honest and transparent to save his life, yet a good portion of the American public just seems to ignore this sentiment and goes on to love him unconditionally anyways. Even though American democracy had the strength to force the last major pathological liar, “democracy” always seems to buckle at the knees when it comes to Trump. A lot of this could likely be due to the fact that Trump is legitimately unhinged, however the government has failed its people by not punishing Trump enough to where he would maybe consider not to lie, cheat, or screw anyone over again.

To further add onto the blunder, Trump appointed Russell Vought to head the Office of Management and Budget. Russell Vought has previously proposed that the United States Military should be used against protestors, and further wishes to ruin any chance at the preservation of Earth’s climate, as he wishes to defund the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This is horrifying, for Trump has selected a man who promotes violence against his own American brethren for expressing their rights to protest, further exemplifying Trump’s thirst to wipe out any opposition to his extremist rhetoric. 

The implications from these nominations, and from Trump’s lie about Project 2025 are severe. Trump is ready to go trigger-happy, and destroy many American values such as free speech, the right to privacy, and freedom of the press, that have remained strong through even the most conservative administrations. 

The saddest takeaway from this situation is that the United States has become so distorted from what the founding fathers envisioned for the country. People should have the right to protest, organize, and revolt if need be. Despite this, the government continues to suppress the people’s voice, and has weaponized its own citizens against each other to believe that it should be one side vs. the other. It wouldn’t be fair to act like American democracy has always been prevalent until now, however, at least it seemed like the U.S. had finally been somewhat progressing, albeit slowly, towards an image of democracy, despite the fact that the U.S. has always been infringing on its citizens rights. Unfortunately even the image of democracy is buried six feet under now, and all we have is a lying clown to laugh at our faces as we assist the government to dig ourselves deeper into autocratic hell.
