The temperature was hot on Friday, but that didn’t stop the women’s soccer team from bringing the heat as the team dominated El Camino Compton Center 7-1. The men’s team is still looking for its first win of the season, losing 3-1 to El Camino. The victory gives the women’s team an even record standing at 3-3 in the South Coast Conference (SCC) and 6-6 in the season.

A collective of players scored for the women’s team. Sophomore Molly Pink scored PCC’s first goal by heading the ball into the net from Alexa Weigand’s corner-kick pass. Pink racked up two goals and had one assist. Pink played aggressively, setting up her team to score.

PCC’s Somaya Bonouar headed in a goal from Marina Lesse to make the score 3-1 before half-time. Bonouar finished the game with two goals.

Director of Soccer Cherif Zein said that he was happy about how the team played.

“We had a lot of goals. We performed well,” said Zein.

The Lancers continued to shine in the second half. Titha Mejia scored a goal on a bounce back shot in the 71 minute. Lisa Kelley scored PCC’s final goal with a pass from Claudia Garcia with four minutes left in the game.

Sophomore star Melissa Fudge didn’t score a goal, but she had two assists and a team-high record of 10 shots in the game. Collectively, the women’s soccer team had 33 shots at goal.

Assistant Head Coach Warren Altounian believes that the team is only going to get better.

“We are coming together as a team,” said Altounian.

Despite the women’s success, the men’s team lost again. The team displayed a lack of basic offense or defense. It was shut down 3-1 by it’s opponent, racking up its 12th loss. The loss makes the team record to 0-5-1 in the SCC and 0-12-1 for the season.

The men’s goal was due to a free kick. The team finished with 11 saves and 16 shots at goal.

Both teams suffered defeat to Long Beach City College Tuesday. The men lost 3-2, while the women were held scoreless in a 1-0 loss.

Both teams will play LA Harbor on Friday at Robinson Stadium.
