The women’s volleyball team swept defending state champion Orange Coast College and gave the Pirates their first loss with a well earned victory, 25-17, 27-25, 25-22 Friday night at Orange Coast College. In Game 1, the OCC Pirates lead the game midway 14-12. However, with Ella Moe and Markisha Richie dishing out kills, the Lancers broke through with a 13-3 run.
“We really needed to start off strong and be aggressive in order to stay in the game,” said Head Coach Tammy Silva.
In Game 2, the Lancers (6-1) and Pirates tied seven times in an intense back-and-forth game until the Lancers continued the pressure and took the game 27-25.
In Game 3, the Pirates were determined to make a comeback, leading the game 11-6.
The Lancers would tenaciously battle back after a time-out with a 16-4 run and gained an 18-15 lead.
“It came down to a really strong team effort,” said Silva. “Our hitting helped us a lot and we communicate really well with each other,” added Brenda Mosoco.
