Looking forward to the upcoming swim season, Head Coach Terry Stoddard said it is the first time since 2003 that the team has enough depth to really compete in the South Coast Conference (SCC). Delving into the strengths of the team, he highlighted four key players that will be joining the team this season. Coming from Arcadia High School, Sprinter Cyndi Huynh and Merry Sanders, the team’s first diver since 2005 SCC individual champion Jesse Barry, will be adding to the team’s strength, Stoddard said.

“Both are top five finishers in our conference. They have a chance to compete for individual titles in our conference. I think they have a chance to make state too,” said Stoddard.

Coming from Alhambra High School will be Miranda Gonzalez, who excels in the butterfly and the breaststroke, and Shannon Adams, who can participate in all the free style events, from 50 yards to a mile.

With strokes and depth being the main strengths, Stoddard said that sprints is the team’s weakness, however, the team is changing it’s training to improve that.

On the men’s side, Stoddard said that this season has a strong group of returning swimmers.

With new freshmen also adding strength to the men’s team, Stoddard highlighted distance swimmer Cord Cuniberti, sprinter Tabrek Seyssel, back and breast stroker Johnson Tang and sprinter Will Landa.

“We have a lot of weapons we can use,” said Stoddard, referring to the players on the team and the skills they are gaining. “We feel we have people have who can step up and win state.”

With strong captains on both teams, Stoddard said things are looking good.

“We want to finish in the top three as a team [in conference],” he said.
