College Council Meeting: 10/18/208

Share: Following a delay caused by the earthquake drill, the intended start time of 10:30 a.m. was pushed back to meeting being called at 10:47 a.m. The board discussed how enrollment of Fall 2018 decreased by 3,100 comparing to Fall 2017. The transfer center has successfully transfered 280 students to UCLA signifying a substantial increase in acceptance from 25 percent to 27 percent. Associated Students: Student Services Center is getting a redesign

Share: The meeting began with Dean Rebecca Cobb announcing that the Student Services Center is getting a redesign. PCC President Dr. Vurdien has allocated $1,000,000 towards the project, which is not quite enough to fund it fully. The design is said to be comparable to the Apple Store, with a comfortable waiting area, computers and printers for students to use, a coffee spot, and guided pathways, to get students to the correct department. Academic Senate to support the lancer pantry

Share: Special guest Vice President Dr. Terry Giugni presented a “vision for success” and a new “student-centered funding formula” for Pasadena City College. Highlights include increasing the number of degrees and certificates, increasing transfers to both UC and CSU institutions, decreasing the average number of units to earn an associates degree, as well as reducing equity and achievement gaps for students of all demographics.
