The Cross Cultural Center is giving back to students in need by holding a holiday food drive through Friday.”The Holiday food drive collects food for needy students at PCC. Unlike a regular canned food drive we challenge clubs and divisions to put together food baskets, so each basket has staples to help a family out for a week,” said Carrie Afuso, coordinator of the Cross Cultural Center.

Afuso explained that by making food baskets, families will not end up with random canned food but items that can be put together for a well balanced meal.

The clubs and divisions also have a option of including a $5.00 gift card for the families to buy perishables.

“It does not take much to put together one basket. It is even easier if there is a group.” Afuso said.

“We tried to pick things that most folks have in their pantry. If you can bring a can of peaches and your friend can bring the bag of rice, before you know it you’ve got a basket put together.”

Recipients are chosen from lists provided by the California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids program and Extended Opportunity Programs and Services.

“Many recipients have families and when money is tight, often adults go without food so that their kids can eat,” Afuso said.

“This gift is very much valued and appreciated. Recipients also gain a lot from knowing that their campus community cares about them.”

This is an opportunity for the PCC community to come together and give back to working students, Afuso explained.

Clubs or divisions can turn in their baskets into the cross cultural center in room CC105 on or before Friday.
