It is important for colleges to prioritize the safety of their students and keep them informed about what to do in the event of an emergency. It is critical that students understand the policies at PCC and how the school is protecting against violent threats. “It is an unfortunate fact of American life that we must be prepared …

Sustainability trumps aesthetics in restoring PCC’s Mirror Pools

Share: For PCC students, faculty and staff, concerns about sustainability and water conservation trump aesthetics in the upcoming redesign of the campus’s reflecting pool.  On November 30, 2022 PCC’s Board of Facilities met to discuss plans for the rehabilitation of PCC’s reflecting pools. Thirty five years after the pools were last restored—some 50 years after they were originally built in 1937—they now require maintenance to the foundation to prevent further leaks and for repairs to be made to the pool’s pumping system. Neil DeGrasse Tyson puts ego into cosmic perspective

Share: On a cold fall night in Pasadena, the audience inside the Ambassador Auditorium was engrossed within the concepts of the cosmic perspective. Astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson strolled across the stage with a candor that felt more like a sit-down with a friend, rather than a lecture on science and its importance with how we function in basically…everything. The cosmic perspective is a method that is intended to knock down our egos and as Neil puts it, “feel more deeply connected to this world.” Using …

Share: Is a single college really going to make a difference in changing their ways to become more climatically conscious? How about a college that waited until 2022, to do anything? That’s what PCC did, only recently adopting plans to change, but because the costs of their ambitions are so large,  it faces significant bureaucratic roadblocks even though Measure PCC passed and the money is now available. Passing the measure and mapping out sustainability efforts is a step in the right direction, but it is …
