Share: In light of the recent school shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, disability advocates have voiced concerns over emergency procedures in schools across the country that do little to consider the needs of disabled students. Although PCC’s emergency guidelines include considerations for students with mobility and sensory disabilities, questions remain as to whether more can be done to ensure the safety of disabled students during emergencies. PCC celebrates its diversity during Black History Month
Share: Black History Month celebrations were taking place all over PCC’s campus this past February thanks to the efforts of Ujima and Blackademia. With over 250 students in Ujima, and many more in the Blackademia program, there was no shortage of people celebrating African-American culture. Holiday Angels celebration grants wishes to children of students
Share: Associated Students (AS) is giving back to children of student parents this holiday season through their Holiday Angels benefit. The Holiday Angels tree, located in the Office of Student Life, boasts 100 cards with wishes on them from the children of students in PCC’s EOP&S, CALWORKS and PASS programs. There are three gift wishes on each card, along with the child’s first name, age and gender. All wishes are items between $10 and $25. Recent campus suicide inspires Mental Health Awareness week

New zero-cost textbook classes minimize educational barriers
Share: Recently, Pasadena City College took action to create an easier way for students to take classes without the need of purchasing expensive textbooks. Beginning during the Winter 2018 intersession, students are able to search the course catalog for classes that only use zero-cost textbooks. This applies to not only traditional classes, but also online classes. These classes will utilize only open educational resources (OER) available for free online. Smoke-free campus? 6,000 butts prove otherwise
Share: PCC Health and Wellness and student volunteers joined in the American Cancer Society’s annual Great American Smokeout by participating in a campus cigarette butt clean-up. In January 2014, PCC implemented a smoke-free policy. This banned all forms of smoking on campus grounds. However, in only two hours, volunteers collected a staggering 6,000 cigarettes, illustrating that student smoking is still an issue.
