The contract for newly appointed president Mark Rocha was revealed Wednesday night at a special board meeting.Rocha signed a four-year contract with the college for $230,000 per year, from July 1, 2010 to June 30 2014.

There is nothing in the contract about a college-funded car or housing allowance, as provided the previous PCC president.

“I’m a little concerned with the four years now that I found out,” said Glenna Watterson, a natural sciences secretary.

Starting on July 1, 2012, Rocha is eligible for a $5,000 raise. On June 30 2013 he is eligible for another $7,500. If Rocha is still employed and the board is satisfied with his progress, by June 30 2015, he could receive a $12,500 raise.

Roger Marheine, president of the Faculty Association, was disturbed by the contract specifics.

“Four years is obviously excessive,” Marheine said. “$230,000 is clearly excessive.”

The contract makes clear that Rocha will be evaluated every year. The time and date for the evaluation has not been decided.

Rocha has also been allotted $1,000 per month for expenses incurred during official business. That includes cell phone, facsimile, computer, phone line, and internet service.

The contract states that a monthly review of these expenses will be performed “to ensure transparency on expenses and to fulfill the Board’s fiduciary responsibilities.”
