Board member recovers from successful heart surgery
Board of Trustees member Dr. Jeanette Mann underwent heart surgery at Huntington Memorial Hospital on Wednesday after “experiencing symptoms” and receiving an angiogram late last week, according to PCC President Mark Rocha.The surgery successfully repaired an arterial blockage in her heart, Rocha said.
Swim team splits meet with SCC teams
PCC held a dual swim meet against Mt. San Antonio College and El Camino College on Friday at the Aquatic Center.The Lancers dominated ECC but could not overcome Mt. SAC’s talent.The men’s team scored, 187 points against ECC’s 75, but lost to Mt. SAC by a score of 140-131.
Wrongfully aiming at Planned Parenthood
Earlier this month, the House of Representatives passed a bill to cut all funding for family planning assistance under Title X, a $317 million program dedicated to serving both men and women. Planned Parenthood was budgeted to receive about 24 percent of that amount, or $75 million, to provide low income women with birth control, STD testing and treatment, cancer screenings, and sex education.
Softball team loses third straight game of season
The Lancers softball team had a hard time breaking away from East Los Angeles College on Tuesday and lost 3-1.
Badminton team continues to easily defeat opponents
The PCC women’s badminton team trounced El Camino College-Compton Center on Friday, finishing its second game of the season at 21-0.
Juried student art to be showcased at museum
Tucked in a corner of the quad, PCC’s Art Gallery is filled to bursting with submissions for its annual Juried Student Art Exhibition, entitled “Tomorrow Today,” which will be held at the Pasadena Museum of California Art instead of in the campus gallery for the first time.

Much more than a war on women
Ever since the Republicans took over the House, several bills have been introduced that would restrict most women’s access to abortions, a procedure that has been legal for almost 40 years. Two bills, HR 3 and HR 358, reduce or eliminate access to abortion for unplanned pregnancies for middle class, poor, disabled and minority women.
Women’s basketball advances in playoffs
The Lancers’ women’s basketball team defeated the Ventura College Pirates in a 67-56 win Saturday night at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.The victory continues PCC’s winning streak in postseason games played in the Hutto-Patterson Gym. The team now holds a now 17-0 record on the home floor.
