Students at PCC work hard hours studying, doing lab work and attending classes. However, the Wi-Fi Lounge is their haven and home away from home on campus. It is a place to bond with other students.

The Wi-Fi lounge is a popular place that has an average of at least a hundred people a day, according to Pablo Carreon, Student Affairs Advisor. Even on a Friday afternoon when the rest of the campus is winding down, it is packed in the lounge.

“It is mainly a place for students to relax or get work done,” said Carreon. The Lounge is open from eight to 10 p.m. but often closes early on Fridays. “The campus police open and close the lounge, so I can’t give an exact time,” said Carreon.

The lounge has computer jacks and loans out computer (for up to an hour through Student Services). There are also events in the lounge. “Usually movie nights and screenings, which are open to the public for free,” Carreon said.

The lounge can also be rented out by student groups or clubs but they must reserve two weeks in advance and if a technician is needed there is a $60 fee.

The lounge was renovated in 2009 and was previously upstairs above the cafeteria. Its primary purpose is for students to have a place to go before and after classes, said Carreon.

“We come to plane events and have fun,” Santi Decunto, Psychology said. He comes to hang out with the members of the Japanese Visual Animation club. He has been coming to the lounge since it opened and spends an average of four to five hours a day there.

Some of the students complain that the noise is loud but others don’t mind it. No dancing, no food, and no loud music, are officially not allowed. “It is really too loud sometimes,” Natalie Aljamal, Biology said.

The lounge whether noisy or not provides the students a chance to unwind from the hectic weeks they face. “I encourage students to frequent the lounge,” Decunto said.  “A lot of my friends come here, it gives me a chance to relax,” said Jessica Benefield, performing arts.
