Report faults Pasadena police in shooting of PCC student
Share: A judge ordered the release of a report last month by the Office of Independent Review Group that examined the 2012 fatal shooting of former PCC student Kendrec McDade by Pasadena police officers and faulted the department for failing to conduct an internal affairs investigation. McDade, who was unarmed at the time of his death, was shot seven times by officers Jeffrey Newlin and Matthew Griffin while fleeing the scene of an alleged theft. The side-effects of PCC’s smoking ban
Share: Pasadena City College’s campus has been smoke-free for almost two years, yet the smoking areas have shifted to the sidewalks and entrances that border that campus. Although the school is not responsible for these areas, the city does not provide a receptacle for cigarette butts and the smoking groups have created a new obstacle for students and locals. Follow:
College students in danger of losing fee waiver if unable to meet academic standards
Fall 2016 is still a long ways off, but PCC has already sent out notices to students on academic probation to remind them about the new education code that will strip them of their financial aid if they don’t meet minimum academic standards.

Board updates student trustee policy
Share: The Board of Trustees recently updated the policy for the office of student trustee this month and lowered the GPA required for a student to hold the position. The board lowered the cumulative GPA from 2.5 down to 2.0 to comply with legal requirements instituted in July of last year. “The Board formally reviewed the entire bylaw in July of 2014 as part of their 6-year review cycle,” Superintendent-President Dr. Rajen Vurdien said. “But sometimes we have to make revision outside the 6-year cycle.” …
PCC Pep Band part of ceremony to honor veterans at City Hall
Share: The Pasadena City College Pep Band played anthems honoring each branch of armed service as the veterans stood attention in a Veteran’s Day event at Centennial Square at Pasadena City Hall on Wednesday. The master of ceremonies was former mayor and current PCC trustee, Bill Thomson, a veteran himself.
