It is easy to be a sports “hater” in the current depressing atmosphere of distrust in almost all involved in the games we love.I certainly have been accused of the above attitude, and it’s not hard to get sucked into it. Players are using drugs to enhance their abilities and reaping benefits in the millions of dollars, and owners are threatening to move franchises for various dollar-and-cent reasons, all in a time when many are struggling to make minimum payments on credit cards and mortgages.

Substance Abusers Tarnish The Entire Sport of Baseball
The game of baseball hasn’t really gone through many changes since it became America’s pastime in the 1800’s. There are still four bases, a bat and a ball. The purpose is still to hit more home runs than the other team, and Cracker Jacks are still the signature snack at ball parks. However, the only major change is quite a gloomy one. It has plagued the game for the past 20 years or so, and has been referred to as baseball’s “black eye.” This recent change is the use of performance enhancing drugs by major leaguers.

I was disheartened to learn of the “Vote of No Confidence’ orchestrated by some members of the Division of Kinesiology, Health & Athletics (KH&A) against Interim Dean Beverly Tate. I have known Beverly Tate for over fifteen years. She has always been one of the most innovative, resourceful, intelligent, and humane voices on campus.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Veteran’s Affairs Void of Veterans
To put it plainly and to the point…PCC does not have a true Veteran’s Affairs office. As a Vietnam veteran, I attend PCC and plan to transfer to a university, but with no veteran’s affairs help. The staff were totally unhelpful, none were veterans. The problems of veterans are more understood by other veterans rather than the regular society.
