Cornell’s student newspaper should be the standard, not the exception

Share: Everything about the Cornell gang rape story is so hideous that it becomes easy to lose faith in humanity. We have been told about seven disgusting men—Matthew Ingalls, Jonathan Newell, Winston Lee, Gillio Lopes, Diego Sarabia, Scott Norris, and Scott Kretzschmar—who are worthy of the same compassion, care, and love with which they behaved that night —in other words, none. The one bright spot, though, is that there are brave individuals throughout this case. The bravest person involved is Jane Doe, who has suffered …

PCC women’s soccer massacres Warriors in 8-0 victory

Share: The Lancers women’s soccer walked into Tuesday’s matchup against El Camino carrying their offensive momentum from last game where they beat LA Harbor 7-0. However the Lancers didn’t apply the brakes just yet, steamrolling the Warriors in a 8-0 shutout victory, moving to 5-1-4 on the season.  As the game started it didn’t take long for the Lancers to quickly apply pressure to El Camino’s goalie where the Lancers were able to get off two shots on target within the first 10 minutes. A …

Trump’s propaganda-filled White House app is fake news

Share: In the midst of President Donald Trump’s White House press ban, the president’s ego managed to reach new levels of arrogance that Americans shouldn’t be surprised he’s capable of reaching. The White House App and Trump TV have both been created to spew 24/7 news filled with all the possible propaganda filth one can imagine. These two platforms, combined with the ongoing press ban, reassure us that the current administration isn’t shying away from silencing First Amendment rights while trying to push out what …

How students can beat the heat in style this fall

Share: As Zara Larsson says, summer isn’t over yet. California has been over 90 degrees, and as much as you want to recreate those outfits you saved on Pinterest, it is too hot to wear your favorite oversized sweater and new UGG boots. Suddenly, you get that email you have been waiting for all week that you landed an interview for your dream internship, but it’s in a few days, and you remember that “dinner thing” you had with your friend whom you have not …

The female employees named as plaintiffs in this case—Ruby Valdez, Rocio Diaz Ortiz, Raquel Barron, Nishelle Andrion, Francis Echeverria and Delilah Patino—all filed their complaints in March with the California Civil Rights Department, while the official lawsuit was filed on May 4. The complaint included similarities in what Matchan …

‘The Social Reckoning’ succeeds on its own terms

Share: The first thing I did after leaving “The Social Reckoning”, Aaron Sorkin’s follow-up to David Fincher’s “The Social Network”, was delete Instagram. I already knew about the evils of Meta and all other social media giants, but Sorkin’s depiction of Mark Zuckerberg and Meta knowingly facilitating extremism and toxicity delivers on a visceral level, leaving viewers no choice but to consider what role they want social media to play in their lives. With “The Social Reckoning,” Sorkin capitalizes on public frustrations with Facebook, with …

‘What was once the peak is now just the beginning’… of massive layoffs

Share: Mergers are slaughtering all the media you have ever loved, and every movie, every show, and every franchise is lined up on the chopping block, and David Ellison is holding the axe. Since the dawn of time, humans have loved telling stories. Since the dawn of capitalism, companies have loved to make money. The relationships between storytellers and studios have always been a rocky one, a power struggle between financial funding and the freedom to tell the stories filmmakers want to share. These struggles …

Does nuance have a place in Hollywood anymore?

Share: Audiences and critics alike have left the theater wholeheartedly believing that Chris Hansen, the world-renowned television persona, journalist, and host of “To Catch a Predator” is “just as bad” as the sexual predators he aired on his show. The new A24 film, “Primetime,” has depicted Hansen as an antagonist and dramatized his negative mindset throughout the show’s production and the intensity at which he worked. Audiences’ failure to understand that two things can be morally incorrect at the same time ultimately shows that nuance …

The play is currently in production, with the cast meeting three times a week.  There is a lot of …
