Thousands join in on the first Pasadena Marathon

As they waited for the countdown right in front of campus, the dedicated participants of the first annual Pasadena Marathon battled the rain, as they prepared for the race to start. Before sunrise on Sunday the racers were ready. The announcer shouted, “Good morning Pasadena! What’s it like to run in the rain?”Within the more than 9,000 participants were students from PCC excited about their involvement in the marathon.

Just before the women’s basketball team began its regional playoff run, I encountered Lancer Head Coach Joe Peron outside the campus café.He half-jokingly commented on the Courier’s coverage of the team, which had been limited over winter intersession.”Man, we need at least a half-page [in this week’s paper]. We’re the most successful program on this campus in the past 20 years and we don’t even get covered by our school paper,” Peron said.
