Energy is contagious. Intensity gathers interest and before the climactic finish, a crowd gathered around the aged red picnic table amiable and interested. The game is chess and its players are far from shy, in fact, they welcome and invite spectators as well as potential players.

The countdown until the study abroad trip to Italy in the fall has begun. Students and advisors, Derek Milne and Donna Mungen, will depart for Florence on Sept. 17 for their three-month journey.

Despite looming budget cuts, the PCC Faculty Association is circulating a petition asking the Board of Trustees to expand programs and maintain faculty and staff positions on campus by using its reserves.

The reactions from the campus upon learning of California’s Supreme Court decision to uphold Proposition 8 was a mixture of disappointment and approval, though no one seemed surprised.

While it may seem obvious to students and administrators that faculty should receive some credit for the overall excellence of PCC, one particular group of faculty is not being treated with the kind of appreciation people would expect.

“I made a promise that I’ll never give up no matter how tough things got,” expressed Priscilla Lun, a hopeful competitor in the 2012 Olympics.Lun has maintained her persistent attitude by remaining an active member of the PCC Women’s Badminton team while fiercely training with her private coach in hopes of earning a chance to represent the United States at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

PCC and Pasadena Forward are collaborating for the second time to sponsor a 5K run to benefit PCC’s Community Education Center on July 25 at the Rose Bowl. The 5K run will be one loop around the Rose Bowl, 3.1 miles according to Israel Estrada, executive director of Pasadena Forward non-profit organization.

All candidates under the slate “United For Pasadena Students” carried off the elections for the Associated Students board for the coming year.
