PCC women’s soccer team won 1-0 against one of their best opponents, Mt. SAC on Tuesday at the PCC’s Robinson Stadium.”I feel good we beat one of the best teams. It feels good to win,” said Lancer midfielder Caroline Rangel.
The Lancers played without some of their starting players because of their injuries. Randi Richardson, a forward, played as a goalie.

In the first half, the Lancers scored the first and only goal of the game. ” Elba blocked the goalie’s view, the ball went over the Mounties keeper and I kicked it in,” said Rangel.

In the second half, at the 19th minute, the Lancer’s goal was put in danger, from a kick by a Mounties’ player that scratched the PCC net.

Three minutes later, Lancer Merakka Augenstein put in risk the Mounties’ goal with a strong free kick, that went to a side of the net.

With a dirty slide tackle by a Mt. SAC player towards Augenstein, she had to leave the field in the last minutes of the second half, injured from the right foot. “It was a tough game, but we did a good transition after Augenstein got injured” said Richardson .

At the 48th minute the Lancers were in danger from a corner kick that one of the Mounties players, but luckily for them, it went over the pole.

The time was running out and the tension started to go up; Mt. SAC started attacking the PCC goalie with almost the whole team at the front, even with their keeper. The Lancers started to get nervous; they wanted to keep their victory, especially during the last minutes.

Running by herself almost from the half of the field, Lancer Kimberly Amaya got in front of the Mt. SAC goalie and kicked the ball with a strong shot that went into the goalie’s hands.

“It was a good game. We beat one of the best teams. It is incredible, and we played without some of the players,” said Cherif Zein, soccer director.

The next game will be away, against Cerritos College on Friday at 4 p.m.

For that game, “we will play harder and dominate more,” said Rangel.
