Men’s soccer began their season by coming back from a two goal deficit against LA Mission to finish with a 2-2 draw away in Encino on Sept 3.

“We started up really well,” Coach Edgar Manvelyan said. “In the first ten minutes we could easily have scored four goals.”

But LA Mission had two breakaway chances and they scored on each chance.

“The first 15 minutes were pretty good, we had chances to score, we just didn’t take advantage of them,” German Alfaro said.  “They had their chances, they took advantage of them.

At half time the Lancers were two goals down, but came out for the second half with a positive attitude, according to Coach Manvelyan.

“Once we got together at half time, we talked about how we needed to work hard and get those goals,” Alfaro said.  “We did and we ended up tying the game.”

Luis Flores scored both goals for Pasadena, both coming in from crosses allowing Flores to tap them in.

“Overall as a team we did really well,” Flores said. “We dominated the game.  We missed a lot of opportunities, but overall as a team we did really good.”

Coach Manvelyan had nothing but good things to say about the team.

“We had a positive attitude,” he said. “The hunger and the positive -no argument- attitude showed that we can play. I think we deserved the win.”

When asked about the rest of the season Flores is positive about the outcome.

“It’s going to go really well, a lot better than last year,” he said. “We already started off on a better foot than last season, so I am looking forward to it.  I think we are going to make the playoffs.”

Coach Manvelyan is also looking forward to a good season.

“Depth is much better than last year, offensively much better than last year,” he said. “Last year our defense was the key, this year our offensive is not just one or two, but four or five guys.

“I think we are going to be very very successful.”

The men’s soccer team plays away on Sept 10 at Fullerton.  Their first home game is against Chaffey on Tuesday, Sept 17 at 3 pm.
