The Lancers dropped their second consecutive game in heartbreaking fashion yesterday at San Bernardino Valley College.
The final score was San Bernardino to PCC 1-0.
A fluke goal early in the second half, where the ball deflected off a defender into the net, was the difference in the game.
Although PCC dominated the last 30 minutes of the game, spending most of their time in opposing territory, they couldn’t quite find the back of the net.
“I’m proud of the way they responded after the goal,” head coach Edgar Manvelyan said. The Lancers had at least three solid shots on goal, with one that missed by just an eyelash.
“We played well enough to at least tie,” he continued.
The team is very young, with just five sophomores on the roster. Tuesday was the first day all players were eligible, so they are still in the process of coming together as a unit, Manvelyan said.
“We looked better,” freshman midfielder Christian Palacios said. “We are a young team, but we’re getting there.”
Coach Manvelyan emphasized that scoring goals is obviously a top priority if the defense continues to play well and said that they are “hungrier than ever to get that W.”
“Everything starts in practice,” freshman midfielder Diego Gonzalez said.
Coach Manvelyan will be working with the squad to “create more chances, improve their counter attacks, and finish their opportunities” during practice this week.
The Lancers look to bounce back against Santa Monica College at Robinson Stadium this Friday. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
