PCC Alumnus Yura Movsisyan, whose thrilling skills led him to the Major League Soccer in 2006, was officially acquired by the Real Salt Lake from Kansas City Wizards, Friday.Along with Movsisyan, Real Salt Lake also obtained a youth international roster spot. In the other hand, Kansas City Wizards gained the rights of a third-round selection in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, a first-round selection in the 2009 MLS Supplemental Draft and a portion of a player allocation, as part of the deal.

“I’m very happy about the trade. I want to get to know the team as soon as possible,” said Movsisyan, who was selected as the fourth pick by the Wizards in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft.

Forward Movsisyan, who left Kansas City on Sunday to join his new teammates, never had the continuity to assure a spot in the first-eleven roster. In his two years as a Wizard, Movsisyan had played 28 games, which he started six of them, and has scored five goals (all in the 2007 season). Movsisyan, 20, also accumulated 887 minutes, most of them coming off the bench.

“I am thankful for Kansas City for what they’ve done for me. I wish them the best,” Movsisyan said.

As a Lancer, Movsisyan scored 18 goals and gave four assists in 19 games at his only season, in 2005. His strength, speed and good accuracy in shots with both legs had made him one of the most exciting talents that the men’s soccer program ever had, catching immediately the attention of the MLS recruiters.

Now, Movsisyan will seek to get more playing time on his new team, defending new colors. “I hope to have more opportunities to play,” Movsisyan said. “We still have chances to make the playoffs from what I understood, so going to the playoffs is the number one goal right now.
