With only 10 seconds to spare in the fourth quarter, the women’s water polo team lost their 4-3 lead and went into overtime against host Mt. San Antonio College. The South Coast Conference match went into overtime on Wednesday, where the Lancers (4-7, 1-2) were defeated, 8-5.”It was a heat breaker,” said Head Coach Terry Stoddard.

Mt. SAC was in the lead 3-2 at the end of the third quarter. Nicole Young scored with 6:22 left in the game to tie it up. Brianna Estrada scored with 3:40 left in the game putting Lancers in the lead, 4-3. Anneke Forrest fouled out with 1:55 remaining in regulation.

“We held defense for three of their possessions and we were up 4-3 with 51 seconds when we acquired the ball on a steal,” said Stoddard. “We controlled the ball and with 17 seconds remaining we turned the ball over on a shot by [Darly] Htike with one second remaining on the shot clock that hit the bar.”

Forrest and Fernanda Camacho also tallied goals for the Lancers. Goalie Hannah Hogue made eight saves and three steals while the team took 18 shots on the goal.

“We’re so much better,” said Stoddard. “Our team could have responded better to the overtime.”

The Lancers’ next match up is against L.A. Trade Tech at the PCC Aquatic Center this Wednesday.
