Students gathered in the Quad on the evening of April 6 to meet with representatives from various universities to obtain information about transferring. Admissions representatives from 30 different CSUs, UCs, private, and out of state universities waited in the quad to answer questions from eager and excited students, said Dina Chase, director of outreach, degree and transfer service.

Chase said that University Night is beneficial for all students.

“In addition to gathering information about academic programs and majors, students meet representatives from the institutions to which they plan to apply and begin making contacts to help them with the transfer process,” Chase said.

University Night gave students who were unable to make it to University Day an opportunity to meet with admissions representatives, said Chase.

“Since most evening students do not have the opportunity to attend daytime information events, University Night offers [them] an opportunity to meet representatives and explore transfer options,” she said.

Representatives from each college and university were eager to meet with students.

Ed Hansbury, director of recruitment and admissions at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena was ready to hand out information.

“We give [students] information on the admissions process, financial aid, how to apply, and how to get loans,” Hansbury said.

“Art Center is a very specialized school so students often have a lot of questions,” he added.

Max Belz, admissions counselor from Providence Christian College in Pasadena was excited to meet with prospective students.

“[Providence Christian College] is a fairly newly established four-year liberal arts school,” said Belz. “It is a good opportunity for us to attract new students.”

Many students feel that University Night is a great opportunity as well.

Megan Gilbaugh, technical theater and dance, believes University Night is very helpful for students.

“[Students] can look around and see which schools they want to go to,” said Gilbaugh.

“Getting to meet face to face and talk with admissions representatives is great,” she added.

Brandon Hammerli, English, believes that University Night is more helpful than simply looking online when choosing between schools.

“It’s a great opportunity for [students] to ask questions that they wouldn’t normally get answered,” Hammerli said.

“The questions students have might not be sufficiently answered online, so this is very useful,” he added.
