Dozens of students and college staff fled the CC Building after a fire set off alarms in the first floor men’s restroom around 10:30 a.m. on July 25.

An unidentified suspect set toilet paper and seat covers on fire in the handicapped stall of the restroom, according to Campus Police Chief Donald Yoder.

The police are looking for the suspect. However, there were no witnesses to the incident, so no description was available.

Although the Pasadena Fire Department responded to the call, Yoder had rushed into the restroom with a fire extinguisher and put out the fire before they arrived.

“We were all involved in putting it out and keeping everyone safe,” Yoder said.

Facilities workers helped evacuating the building, and they brought in industrial fans to get rid of the smoke.

Jordan Orozco, associated students executive board member, was in the building when the fire occurred.

“There was a lot of smoke,” he said. “Everyone had to evacuate the building.”

The Wi-Fi Lounge and the Office of Student Affairs are the only open areas on the CC Building’s first floor. The lobby is closed off with “caution” tape until further notice.
