Just an average joe bored with his mundane life, Henry Flemming gives up his rewarding business to become a private detective in the play “Flemming,” a thriller written by Sam Bobrick and directed by Duke Stroud.”Flemming” premiered in Sexson Auditorium on Oct. 15.

The actors became their characters, not once did you spot a flaw or stumble.

“The characters are the playwrights and we try to find what we have in ourselves to bring them to life,” Stroud said.

“The characters are just as colorful as their drinks,” said Cindy Williams, a local resident who attended the performance.

The stage set was incredibly detailed; it looked as though the audience stepped into a piece of the Flemming’s private lives. The furniture, bar, old father clock, the stairs to their bedroom and the scene of nature and light coming from the windows really set the tone for the play.

At the beginning of “Flemming,” the audience is introduced to a couple. Karen Flemming, played by Allie Olson, is a stay-at-home wife who loves to shop, socialize and drink martinis. Henry Flemming, played by Charly Sheltow, loves his wife and just needs more excitement in his life.

By the end of “Flemming” the Flemming’s rekindle their love through the chaos of Henry’s detective work.

Glances around the audience, showed happy faces all around.

“I could not stop laughing,” said Melvin Trautman, an audience member.

The cast and crew should be proud of the production that was put together flawlessly.

“Directing, working with the actors and watching [the play] come to life is what’s fun,” said Stroud.
