Both men’s and women’s soccer teams completed their seasons last week in Torrance when they played El Camino College. The men’s team ended their season with a 2-2 tie and the women lost, 3-1.Both teams finish their seasons in sixth place in the South Coast Conference.

The women’s team struggled during its match but Head Coach Randy Lilavois believes that the team did the best they could despite the current situation.

“Considering all the injuries on the team, they played well,” said Lilavois. “It’s just different when you have a different line up.”

Many of the freshman members of the team got some playing time due to the injuries and according to Lilavois they did very well.

“[Freshman] Chanel Lewis filled in as sweeper and did well,” said Coach Lilavois. “The freshman all did great.”

The women’s soccer team finished the season with an overall record of 7-7-6 and 3-6-5 in the SCC.

On the men’s side, Head Coach Edgar Manvelyan thinks the team played well against El Camino College.

“We gave up two set piece goals,” said Manvelyan, “so that hurt us [and] we were not marking.”

The Lancers’ defensive troubles did not bother Manvelyan, who is happy with the way the season panned out.

“I gave everyone a chance to play so it was fun and we scored two nice goals,” he said.

Earlier in the season, Manvelyan vowed to better the team as the new head coach after an 0-20-1 season last year.

“I’m happy we did better than last year and the program is only going to get better,” said Manvelyan, who plans to spend the off-season making sure his team members make their grades.

“The record (6-6-8, 3-5-6) does not mean much. We want our players to do well in school and get them ready for the next level,” said the coach. “We’re going to work hard and make sure the guys pass all their classes [so] we will be ready for next year and the new freshmen will help.
