President Mark Rocha has applied, been interviewed, held an open forum with students and staff and is one of three finalists for the position of president at Kingsborough Community College (KCC) in Brooklyn, New York, according to KCC officials.

The decision to offer Rocha the position may come within the next couple of weeks, officials said.

KCC is part of 23 other institutions of higher education in The City University of New York (CUNY) public college system.

“CUNY conducted a national search and Dr. Rocha, a respected educator, is one of the finalists for the Kingsborough presidency,” said Jay Hershenson, Senior Vice Chancellor for University Relations and Secretary of the Board of Trustees. “After several on-campus meetings these three finalists were recommended by the search committee,” Hershenson said.

The Chancellor will assess the candidates and is expected to recommend one to the KCC Board of Trustees during its June 30 meeting.

Some PCC board members were unaware of Rocha’s job search.

“I hadn’t heard. I will have to see if President Fellow has heard anything,” Board Member Linda Wah said in an email.

In a telephone interview with the Courier from Italy where he is working, Board President Anthony Fellow declined to comment on Rocha’s candidacy at KCC.

“He’s a good president, but I’d rather not comment at this time of what I know or don’t know regarding this matter,” Fellow said.

Rocha’s contract with the District began in July 2010 and ran through June 2014, but last October the board extended Rocha’s contract through June 2017.

Rocha’s annual salary is $254,000, but his current contract may be up for review next month.

“The District will consider reviewing this contract on or about July 1, 2014,” according to Rocha’s contract, which is posted on the PCC website.

The other two finalists for the KCC presidency are Farley Herzek, interim president for Los Angeles Harbor College, and Kenneth Saunders, acting president of Nassua Community College in New York.

  1. Well, when will the Board start looking for a new president?! If this guy is booking it to New York, someone needs to fill in. It’s time for the Board to really look into taking care of its college and the community involved…

  2. Another point scored by our clueless board, you know, the ones who could have been picked randomly from any phonebook, accidently elected, and making the same arbitrary and bad decisions. Here again, these 7 circus clowns have piled out of a box and tumbled over each other, pulling each others pants down and grinning like apes, when asked a simple question about THEIR president:

“I hadn’t heard. I will have to see if President Fellow has heard anything,” says Linda Wah Wah.

“He’s a good president, but I’d rather not comment at this time of what I know or don’t know regarding this matter,” Fellow said. How can “our fellow in Italy” comment on what he does not know? But yet he does know, or he thinks he knows. Or he knows someone who knows. Or he could find out and tell us the truth. So much for transparency!

As for the other carnival side shows, we can only guess at what they don’t know–besides how to run a college or choose worthy presidents. Don’t forget Perfumo.
