The PCC Art Gallery will showcase the work of four selected artists on Oct. 9 and merge with Pasadena Art Night Oct. 10 in the proud display of “Odd Fits: Made From Scratch.” “It’s about love of materials and how they relate to ideas,” said Yolanda McKay Instructor and curator of the show.

The gallery will showcase work from San Antonio, Texas native artist, Chris Sauter, Seattle-based Sheila Klein, Jacquelina Dreager and Jason Wilson from Southern California.

“There is going to be some interesting stuff in the show, like a motorcycle,” said Brian Tucker, art gallery director.

“I started thinking about the show when I was in San Antonio, I wanted to make some connections and bring them here” said McKay.

The four artists were selected by McKay and asked to present various pieces that she felt suited the theme of the exhibit.

“They’re artists I’ve been interested in for a while,” she said.

Inspired by the idea of alchemy, McKay wanted to bring forward the Occult Tradition in a modern sense.

“Alchemists were two groups, the puffers and the philosophers. The puffers were the ones who said, ‘I’m going make lead into gold’ and the philosophers were the ones who know everything had a purification process and this greater enlightenment,” said McKay. “To me, the artists in the show have that,” she added.

Chris Sauter, who will showcase his electrical towers made out of wheat, got his inspiration from the idea of consumption and will be speaking about his work at 6:30 pm, Oct. 9 at the ArtGallery.

Sheila Klein a well-known large-scale public artist will display her new take on architecture. Using lighter materials she has knitted architecture from the usual solid form.

Klein is artist behind the FAA Tower at LAX as well as the Hollywood and Highland Metro Link Station. Oct. 10 Klein will discuss her work at 1 p.m. at the Art Gallery.

Jacquelina Dreager will present along with her artwork, a video extension of her work done, forms that have been in her repertoire.

Jason Wilson, however, will have the largest piece in gallery a full size motorcycle.

“For him the finished product represents who he is and [in this case] the California love affair with vehicles,” said McKay.

As she chuckled, McKay mentioned how eager Wilson is to take his motorcycle out of the exhibit early for a ride.

Wilson explained to her how perfect the weather was this time of year for riding motorcycles but McKay refused his request with a smile.

On Friday, ArtNight will be providing a free shuttle service to all guests. There will be 11 stops including, Art Center College of Design, Norton Simon Museum, Armory Center of the Arts, Pasadena Public Library, Pasadena Museum of California Art, and PCC.

The opening reception for the artists is 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct 9 at the Art Gallery. The public is invited, and gallery admission is free. The exhibit will be open Oct. 9 to Nov. 19. ?
