PCC will host for the first time an annual event to raise environmental awareness, which includes a community fair, information booths, music and dance performances and concludes with a film followed by a panel discussion.”[Professor] Ling O’Connor worked really hard to bring [the event] here,” said Nick Meehan of the campus environmental club Seeds of Change.

“She really had to push hard. This event usually happens at a UC.”

“To get the Leap Frog event to be held at PCC, I had to compete against seven other schools,” O’Connor said.

“[The schools included] “>Pomona College, Harvey Mudd College, Cal State L.A. for hosting the Southern California Climate Action Network summit.”

Being in environmentally conscious group, the club is having a difficult time deciding how to advertise for Leap Frog in a sustainable way.

Making traditional copies is out of the question because of the waste produced by printers.

T-shirts were also an option but was finally shelved because screen printing leaves a carbon footprint.

At the end of the day, a consensus was not reached.

“What about Eco-advertising?” asked Angel Pinedo. “I’m sure it’s been thought up.”

Seeds of Change plans to highlight sustainable studies courses offered by PCC, such as English 1A 1B and 1C taught by Professor Kristale Walter.

The group recognizes that in order to change everyday behavior they must start small.

During Leap Frog, Seeds of Change plans on reaching out to students who may not be environmentalists, said Meehan.

“I got a friend to stop drinking bottled water,” said Meehan.

“She’s a physical trainer, that’s a case a week.”

The psychology club will also represent PCC along with Seeds of Change.
