Nate Montana, son of National Football Hall of Fame Quarterback Joe Montana, has left the University of Notre Dame and began practicing with the PCC football team for the upcoming 2009 season.According to Head Coach James Kuk, Montana has been attending practice for more than a week and is currently competing for a starting position at quarterback along with returning sophomores Jonathan Troast and Nick Ponce.

The bridge whom connected the PCC football program with Montana is respected quarterback trainer Steve Clarkson. The younger Montana is one time trainee of Clarkson.

Clarkson is also a member of the Pasadena Quarterback’s Club and the proximity of the club to the college creates the relationship.

Clarkson is known for producing Division 1-A talent, especially at the position of quarterback. He has trained NFL quarterbacks Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Leinart, Gino Torretta and J. P. Losman.

Kuk displayed an optimistic outlook on the situation. He believes the acquisition of Montana to the roster adds talent and depth to the position of quarterback.

“Nate obviously needs time to learn our offense scheme but he is doing a good job, is responsible and has great work ethic,” said Kuk. “His demeanor brings a professional attitude to the program.
