The Lancer women’s basketball team lost a close battle against Los Angeles City College, as they fell 64-63, giving the Lancers their fourth loss of the season on Friday night. The Lancers (23-4) could not contain L.A. City’s (22-2) Ebony White and Jessica Torres who combined for 49 of the Cubs’ 64 points. White had a double-double scoring a game-high 26 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while Torres scored 23 points.

“They didn’t play too well,” said Lancer head coach Joe Peron said regarding his team. “We weren’t playing with intensity and our defense wasn’t consistent.”

The Lancers led for the majority of the game until L.A. City took a two-point lead with 1:55 remaining in the second half.

PCC had a chance to recapture the lead with less than a minute left in the second half, but Forward Easter Faafiti missed two of three shots from the free throw line, the last one being a potential game-tying free throw with 15 seconds remaining in the game.

“We would have never been in that situation if the other shots were made,” said Faafiti, who also had a double-double, scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. This was her ninth 22-plus point game of the season.

“We’re a 10,” she said about her team this season, “but tonight we didn’t perform like we should of.”

Turnovers and fouls played a key roll in the game, as Torres got into some early foul trouble, while she and White combined for seven of the teams 16 fouls. White alone accounted for nine of the teams 19 turnovers.

The Lancer’s Allegra Kholey and Faafiti also combined for seven of PCC’s 16 fouls, and seven of the team’s 18 turnovers.

“[The team] missed opportunities, that’s all,” said Peron.

The Lancers will attempt to snap their two-game losing streak when they face off against El Camino-Compton Center on Wednesday.
