The women’s softball team lost to East Los Angeles College with a score of 8-0 on March 1 at Robinson Park.

The loss was the second after an injury to sophomore leading hitter Kayla Moore, causing her to be out for the week due to a muscle strain. The first loss was against Cerritos College on Feb. 28, with the same 8-0 score.

“We hit the ball hard throughout the game. We just didn’t have the luck,” said Brittany Williams, head coach.

Moore’s absence seemed to have contributed to the loss as she has proved to be the team’s pitching ace and hitter, having the most hits on the team.

The Lancers had a difficult time getting a run in against ELAC’s pitchers throughout the game, though the Lancer’s did not give up easily.

Sophomore center fielder Brittany Skoien achieved a triple in the first-inning.

Freshman pitcher Casey Ramirez did prove her ability as a pitcher, filling in Moore’s place well.

“Kasey Ramirez kept us in the game. She pitched well enough and kept [ELAC] off balance basically the whole game,” said Williams.

By making a few errors, the Lancer’s actually gave the Huskies four runs, giving them the upper hand to carry out the rest of the game and win.

According to Williams, Moore will be out for the next few games, but is working with the trainer for a fast recovery.

“Basically, the plan [for the next game] is to do the small things right, like run the plays, and we’ll be in a good spot. I tell the girls to take care of the ball as it leads to wins,” said Williams.

The Lancers’ season record stands at 7-11, with a 2-0 in the South Coast Conference play.

PCC plays El Camino College on March 8 at Robinson Park at 2 p.m.
