The women’s soccer team was defeated by Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday in a physical battle that ended in a 2-3 loss for the Lancers.

The Lancers played a tough game but were not able to capitalize on certain opportunities that ended up costing them the game, a feeling that was reflected by the team.

“I feel we could have won. We were very strong, but we only could take what we did today and use that for the rest of the season,” said Vanessa Capra, forward. Capra was one of the two Lancers to score a goal and played with an intense hustle that kept Mt. SAC’s defense on its toes.

The Lancers played offensively from the beginning of the match with the ball being in Mt. SAC’s territory a majority of the time, but they were unable to take advantage of their field position. Unlike PCC, Mt. SAC took advantage of every opportunity it got scoring three swift goals in total on the Lancer’s goalkeeper.

“I think [we were] a good team but [we weren’t] able to finish. [The team members] worked their hearts out but [we weren’t] able to get the results [we] wanted,” said Tatiana Sanchez, goalie.

Amanda Papac, center, also felt that the Lancers were the better team but were unable to finish the game.

“I think we were the better team but we weren’t able to finish. It’s something we’ve got to work on,” said Papac.

With Mt. SAC scoring two goals within the first thirty minutes of the first half they had the Lancers playing catch up the entire game. It was not till the 2nd half after Mt. SAC had scored its third goal that the Lancers scored their first goal in the 53rd minute and the second in the 66th minute.

The rest of the game consisted of the Lancers rallying to even the score and ended with them being unable to do so resulting in a loss.

“We had a plan going in and it was something we were able to do in the second half but we could not in the first,” said Randy Lilavois head coach.
