The Lancers women’s soccer team pulled out a 3-0 win in a slow game against El Camino-Compton Center on Tuesday.

Lizbeth Rodriguez scored the first goal in the 35th minute, taking a pass from midfielder Cassandra Orozco and shooting it into the corner just past El Camino-Compton’s goalkeeper Junnipher Guerrero.

“We started out a little slow when the game started and then we came and picked it up a little faster and faster,” said coach Reggie Rivas.

Two goals were scored in the second half. Rodriguez scored her second of the match off an assist from Helena Macintosh and Sara Oceguera finished the scoring with an unassisted strike.

“In the second half we really started playing better soccer and got two more goals to get the result of 3-0,” Rivas said.

“We played better in the second half than the first but the fact that we capitalized and connected helped me score two goals,” Rodriguez added.

The Lancers maintained a strong defense, allowing El Camino-Compton only two shots in the entire match.

Down by three in the 80th minute, tensions began to rise between both teams. ECC-Compton’s defender, Analieli De, was given a red card after slapping Christine Salas.

“I talked to Compton’s coach and [Analieli De] will serve at least a game suspension,” Rivas said.

“Both teams played aggressively and said some things we shouldn’t have but I’m glad that my team kept their composure,” Rodriguez said.

Although the Lancers came out with a victory there were many missed opportunities.

“It wasn’t a pretty game but we got the win,” said Rivas. “We’re happy with the win but there are still things we’re going to continue to work on at practice.”
