The men’s soccer team put on a defensive showcase as they squeezed out their second South Coast Conference win against the Compton College Tartars at the El Camino-Compton Center on Wednesday. The 2-1 victory was lead by PCC defenders Malcolm Linton, Bryant Castillo and goalie Jorge Sainz.

Compton struck first with a score on a penalty kick. Thereafter, Lancer defense rarely let up. Linton kicked the ball out of the goalie box and far down the field away from Compton forwards on numerous occasions, Castillo played strong one-on-one defense against various Tartar forwards, and Sainz completed the defensive spectacle with nine saves throughout the match.

Lancer midfielder Albrik Tahmasian headed in the first goal for PCC off an accurate Linton throw-in, giving him his team-leading eighth assist of the season. Just four minutes later center midfielder James Hernandez scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season on a free kick which sailed untouched into the net.

Toward the end of the game there was a verbal altercation between Tahmasian and the Compton goalie, after they slammed into each other as they both jumped for the ball.

No cards were distributed to either player.

The Lancers are now 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in South Coast Conference play. The Lancers head to East L.A. College, Friday at 6 p.m.
