Lancer Cario Liu ended the weekend’s invitational as the men’s top swimmer with a total of 81 points.

PCC attended the twenty seventh Annual Mt. San Antonio College Swim Invitation, which was on Feb. 24th & 25th. Twenty City Colleges came together for the first scoring invitational of the season.

Liu bested Mt. SAC’s Taylor Kneisley by one point.

Giselle Mendieta took eleventh place in points for the female swimmers. The men’s team finished ninth and the woman’s team eleventh.

Head Coach Terry Stoddard was pleased with the results and said: “We had too many second places and couldn’t finish on some races.”

Stoddard plans to continue to focus on the fundamentals with upcoming South Coast Conference meet against Chaffey and El Camino College on Friday March 2nd.

Liu pulled away with a win in the men’s 1650-yard freestyle by 0.30 seconds from Palomar College’s Misaki Onoue.  After the race, out of breath, Liu said “it was a pretty tough race.”

Liu also placed second in the men’s 400-yard individual medley and third in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Henry Chung from Ventura College pulled away from Lancers Stephen To by 0.26 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly.

To also was edged away again in the 200-yard butterfly by 0.93 seconds to get second place in both events.

Mendieta of the women’s team had a strong performance taking first place in the woman’s 200-yard breaststroke and third and fourth in the 100- and 50-yard breaststroke respectively. Mikela Velasquez had a tough event in the woman’s 100-yard freestyle where she placed fifth.
