The PCC Cross Country team had a poor showing at the SoCal Peview in Bakersfield over the weekend.”Eh, it was ok. We didn’t really have anyone strong,” said Head Coach Armand Crespo. “Many on our team are injured.”

The women’s team suffered the most, missing two runners at the event, and was unable to place on the team rankings.

“The injuries aren’t serious, mostly stress, but it is not worth the risk so close to conference,” said Crespo.

Ashely Hernandez did the best for the women’s team coming in 54th out of the 260 female runners, with a time of 20:40 minutes for the five kilometers.

The rest of the women’s team came in at 156th, 164th, and 191st place in the following order; Heather Loew at 23:09 minutes, Lucis Garcia at 23:20 minutes, and Dorothy Chien at 24:25 minutes.

The men’s team was able to place 24th among the team rankings with an average time of 23:00 minutes.

Ernest Rodriguez was the first on the men’s team to finish the four-mile run in 30th place with a time of 21:24 minutes.

Scott Morrison, who was suffering from light injuries, usually races along side Rodriguez, but finished second among the Lancer team in 142nd place with a time of 22:56 minutes.

The rest of the male team came in at 153rd, 179th, 218th, and 322nd place in the following order: Alejandro Esparza at 23:03 minutes, Enmanuel Vera at 23:23 minutes, Matthew Mojarro at 24:14 minutes, and Guzman de Rosello at 28:14 minutes.

“This course is harder than most,” said Crespo “But still most the runners improved.”

“When we get to conference we can beat whoever is up,” Crespo said.

The cross country team runs in the Howard Brubaker Invitational on Saturday.
