The Golden Lions finished with a 12-19 record last season with a 9-9 record in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play and expect Wilson to contribute immediately.

After his car plummeted from a cliff last year, the 21-year-old PCC student took only a quick moment to shake off the shock before he thought of continuing the race.

Illustrating the unexpected detour he took in his 2000 Subaru Impreza, Ken Gushi recalled how he plunged off of a turn called Engineer’s Corner with the car hitting a tree in mid-air. It snapped and broke the fall, dropping him and his navigator unscathed at the base of the mountain. [Read more →]

PCC plummeted further down the South Coast Conference baseball standings Thursday, losing to the Cerritos Falcons 6-2, in a dramatic fashion. The loss dropped PCC’s record to 4-29 overall and 4-10 in conference play. It was the Lancers’ second loss to Cerritos in three days and gave Cerritos a 3-0 season series sweep.

The Lancers held Cerritos to three runs over eight innings, but were held scoreless themselves through six. They were down 3-0 in the seventh, when they finally broke loose for two runs on RBI’s by freshman Roderick Martinez and sophomore Brian Ladeira. But the bats were unable to break the inning open and the bullpen finally gave way, as the Falcons exploded for three runs in the ninth to seal the win. [Read more →]

In fast-paced games, the PCC women’s badminton team outplayed Los Angeles City College, 19-2, on Wednesday at the Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

Prior to the game, the Lancers had already earned five points in advance, as the Cubs were short a number of players.
While PCC played with all six players, LACC started only with four.

Sophomore Angeline Kornelus won her two singles’ games with superiority, as she used her experience to beat her opponents. Kornelus defeated Cubs’ Madison Tarr, 21-4, 21-6 and Magdalena Rogosz, 21-4, 21-1. [Read more →]

Yoga student Lisa Jover first found the idea of Bikram yoga ridiculous. She could not fathom why would people do yoga in a 105 degree Fahrenheit room.

“When my girlfriends pressed on [me] trying and, I told them that my body does not need such a heavy [load],” Jover reflects to the days before her love evolved for this type of exercising. [Read more →]

Returning state champion Keisuke Yagi continued to set the South Coast Conference on fire, leading the PCC men’s swim team to victory over El Camino College (0-3) on Friday, 70-57.

While the win was the first of the year for the Lancers, bringing their record to 1-2, winning is nothing new to Yagi. He remains undefeated in 2008 as he claimed victory in the 200 yard freestyle, the 200 butterfly and the 500 freestyle against El Camino and has established himself as a highly sought after national recruit. While Yagi continued his dominance, the men’s team had many other standout performances. [Read more →]

PCC’s softball team managed four runs in the first two innings against host Glendale Community College before errors and silent bats allowed Glendale to rally and rout the Lancers 10-4 on Monday.

Thanks in part to freshman Monica Camacho’s two run single in the second inning, PCC ended its half of the inning with a 4-1 lead.

The Lancers would not add to that lead for the rest of the game as concentration problems plagued the defense, allowing Glendale to slip through their fingers and continue their offensive tear. [Read more →]
